Puma Punku and Easter Island Aesthetics
Puma Punku and Easter Island are two of the most fascinating ancient sites. Both continue to attract tourists, scholars, scientists, and general enthusiasts due to their massive and mysterious megalithic constructs. Puma Punku and Easter Island are studied individually for their baffling ancient stone creations and the legends behind them.
One such legend that both Puma Punku and Easter Island share is that their massive monoliths were floated into place by the ancient builders. However, that’s not all they share. For those paying attention, the aesthetics of the ancient sites look remarkably similar. Aside from the fact that both sites’ primary recognizable stone constructions lay scattered in disarray, of course. Presumably that was not the intended design.
Whether the H blocks of Puma Punku and the Moai of Easter Island were left in their chaotic positions due to their makers abandoning their projects and leaving them as is, or natural disaster scattering and partially burying everything is unknown. However, both sites were found to have their signature creations left in such as way as to task archaeologists with attempting to determine their original placement and functions.
Uncovering Puma Punku and Easter Island
Upon digging them up, as it were, and studying them more closely the bigger mystery revealed itself. How were the absolutely massive monoliths so precisely carved and moved into place? Both the Puma Punku H blocks and the Easter Island Moai are huge. Yet they are very specifically shaped and detailed with machine precision.
Another aesthetic shared between the two sites is the ‘bird men’ carving found at each. Though not directly on their signature creations, and more likely added later by new inhabitants rather than their original engineers. The people of the neighboring archaeological site of Tiwanaku say they didn’t built Puma Punku, but that it was built by the gods. It is believed the Tiwanaku people are responsible for the ‘bird men’ carvings found at or near Puma Punku.
The Rapa Nui of Easter Island also claim that the giants who inhabited the island before them built the Moai and that for a time their ancestors lived along side them. The Rapa Nui likely carved the ‘bird man’ to represent one such giant or mysterious ancestor believed to have moved the stones with mana.
Puma Punku and Easter Island Materials
Although some aspects of these sites appear similar, they are still each very unique. It’s obviously possible these were two very different places with very different cultures. Even so, we have to consider the possibility they were built the same people or at least descendants of the same people. Perhaps the reason for their differences is simply due to location and available building materials.
By that I mean, as a culture spreads out and starts new settlements in places that have an entirely different landscape and resources to work with, they have to adapt. The stone creations of Puma Punku and Easter Island are created with different materials. The H blocks at Puma Punku are created with red sandstone and grey andesite while the Easter Island Moai are made from volcanic tuff and red scoria. These materials were what was available for the regions. However, both sites used the grey and red colour scheme.
Puma Punku and Easter Island Locations
More importantly, the proximity of these two sites cannot be ignored. Especially when you consider that they would have been built when sea levels were much lower. Even now, if you follow along the Tropic of Capricorn from Puma Punku out to sea you’ll come across Easter Island. It’s probably also not a coincidence that both sites were built along the Tropic of Capricorn.
Interestingly enough, if you follow this path between Puma Punku and Easter Island using Google Earth you can see what appears to be a chain of islands and/or ruins. Even more fascinating, though less likely to be related, is that if you continue to follow the Tropic of Capricorn you will find more giant mysterious archaeological sites. Many ancient sites seem to be situated on either the Tropic of Cancer or the Tropic of Capricorn and several megalithic sites all around the world have been proven to have been built with great precision in specific correlations to the June and/or December solstices.
Ancient Connections
A shared interest and understanding of astrology and megalithic stone masonry aren’t the only connections between the ancient cultures of Earth. Some intriguing genetic discoveries have been made proving that at the very least ancient people got around. The Rapa Nui of Easter Island are shown to have a genetic connection to native tribes in the Americas.
The natives across many Polynesian islands, from Japan all the way to Hawaii, have various oral traditions of having at one time been all one people. There are stories of a great destruction and the people being scattered. One such story, shared among many cultures, is that of the land mass of Lemuria. The people of Hawaii say this is where they come from and that many people were lost along the way.
When you consider to volcanic activity of what is referred to as the ring of fire, it is possible that a super volcano in the region did once cause serious devastation. Perhaps the many Polynesian islands were all once part of the same super volcano landmass. Maybe they still are, but that landmass has since been submerged beneath the ocean.
If all the afore mentioned is true, this might explain how the megalithic creations of Puma Punku and Easter Island ended up scattered and partially buried. If a super volcano blew, it likely would have caused massive global earthquakes and tsunamis. Some ancient sites could have potentially even been shifted or knocked from their original locations.
The Mysteries Continue
With so many possibilities and questions left unanswered, it may be years before we finally start to piece it all back together. So many more questions have yet to even be asked. Suffice to say both Puma Punku and Easter Island are treasure troves of wonder for the curious mind. Perhaps by investigating their proximity and potential connection we can discover more.
Not only might we find out more about Puma Punku and Easter Island, but some of the other equally fascinating sites among the Polynesian Islands, The Tropic of Cancer, and The Tropic of Capricorn. We may even discover new sites in between!
